I am an Omani girl who recently finished her Master’s degree in some field. I decided to sign up for a blog after reading a couple of English blogs on Oman. Because Oman does not protect freedom of expression, my identity will stay concealed. Also, this is a place where I can rant about many things that bug me in Oman. It is an outlet for me to criticize the culture and be heard. I hope people read my blog with an open mind and heart, and maybe learn something new.

asalam alaikum..akhbarish? i am a muslim arab girl with yemeni blood(i do not hold a khaleej or yemeni passport) as i was born and raised in kenya;east africa.
my boyfriend who is omani zinjibari,he has the omani passport by birth;we are inlove and want to get married, but i keep on hearing all these rules about the government not allowing omani men to marry girls who are not citizens of oman.
i have many cousins and aunties who were married by omanis and have lived there for ages, ever since the years when the omanis came to east africa for trade and to settle down.
anyway, please give me advice,on which is the best way to succeed in this as we are truly inlove and i dont find it fair to sacrifice my love of 4 years because of government rules.
we donot have wasta within the government,is there any other solution to this?
shukran.
Salam, I am not sure why you would have a problem. Usually Omani Zanzibari people don’t have an issue marrying non-Omani. All he needs to do is to follow the law “the steps are listed in my blog”. I did hear that men have a harder time marrying from outside the country.
I don’t think you should give up your love, but you need to realize that there might be some sacrifices for this to work out.
you should set up an email address too, in case people have suggestions or have questions they dont want to ask in public.
thnx

Hi! I also want to thank you for your fascinating and informative blog. I’m an expat university teacher in Oman who really needs to know more about what’s happening in my students’ lives and in Omani society. My students are friendly and tell me a lot, but I know that they can’t be as frank as I’d like because I’m their teacher. Your insights are invaluable! Shuk’ran!

this comment made me laugh LOL
Both of your are doing great job! mashallah! Wish you all the best in life always!
Oh, we’re all slightly freakish in our own way.
Thanks so much for your blog. I have found it so helpful. I really didn’t know anything about Oman or the culture there until I began reading your blog. I am an American who is currently dating an Omani man here in the States. It has been a really positive, enlightening experience so far. I honestly did not expect anything to come of the relationship seeing as sometimes it seems like we are from different planets. But he is constantly surprising me. But then again I have lots os issues with American guys and prefer to avoid them. I am not sure that it is possible for our relationship to go anywhere very serious but my eyes are opened.
Thanks again. Keep posting!
Thanks buddy your doing great Job
Wish you all the best in future

Great blog! I don’t necessarily agree with all of the content, but I love how provocative some of the posts are.
Keep the up the good work! Will stay tuned.
P.S. I wouldn’t be so sure how anonymous your identity is. Technology is not to be trusted.
I’ve read your all blog entries with great interest in just a few hours; great posts! I’ve been living in UAE/Abu Dhabi for the past 2 years and am very much bothered with the racist attitude from all different nationalities towards one other. I always thought that these matters are non existent in Oman but I see that there are also issues between Omanies themselves (just like UAE but in a different way). How sad! Still, its great to see that Omani people still keep up to their traditions and having read your blog, I felt like Ive already been and lived there!
Good luck with the wedding and keep us posted!
I just found ur blog…seems kool and will write u more soon to make this more interesting:)
Hello R,
Some time back I read that you own a Kindle in Oman. I am planning on getting mine sometime next month and I had questions about whether we can actually use the Kindle to download books and actually READ in oman.
Can you please help?
Unfortunately, you cannot use the Kindle to download books in Oman because Oman is not supported. You cannot even purchase e-books on Amazon from Oman and manually download them into your Kindle.
