I thought I was just going to ignore all the comments I have been getting from some readers (a cause from someone posting my blog on their facebook) that either know the DJ at Park Inn or are just offended from a previous post I wrote called “Are Black Omanis Dumb?“. Well, today I received an e-mail from the DJ herself requesting that I remove her name from the post (I had to, she said plz). I realize that this has become a larger issue than just me venting on my blog about the Hotel’s loud music. Therefore, I decided to write this update so that my haters can have an update on the issue since I deleted all their comments and they are left with no response.
I will just post my reply to the DJ:
I would most delightedly remove your name from the post. However, I would like to explain to you that my post was not directed to you personally, as when I wrote the post, I did not know you even existed. So, you should not take it personal. Also, Park Inn is located on a higher ground and is a high building. The problem with that is that the sound travels sometimes further than what you expect because there are no other higher buildings in front of it that would block the sound. Also, many people work on Thrusdays and sometimes the sound becomes too annoying and harder to handle.
About my post on “Are black Omanis dumb?” I would like you to read that post one more without that anger that you have on you right now. Once you do that, you will realize (as did the commentators) that I was discussing an issue in Oman where regular Omanis always use the phrase that black Omanis are dumb, and what I did was to explain their role (the post was specific to ex-slaves) in our society and that saying black Omanis are dumb is in itself a dumb statement. Also, I was inspired to write that post after reading an article about IQ’s of blacks vs. whites, which discuss a similar issue. Therefore, I do not understand that storm of anger that is directed towards that particular post. If anything, I think I have the right to discuss issues such as racism and equality in Oman, as I think they are important and not because I am racist.
Oh, and I really didn’t mind the extra hits I’ve been getting

Have fun!
Now, if you guys want your comments to be approved, use a better language and everyone will hear your point of view!

I maintain that the volume level used by — (name removed per request) — at Park Inn is inappropriate for the setting.
It is supposed to be a lounge, chill atmosphere. Instead she is playing at a level for a warehouse rave. The speakers there are not designed for that. The sound becomes highly distorted.
You can not order anything from the bar because the volume is too loud.
Even if you move to the opposite side of the rooftop, it is still too loud. You can’t even have a conversation with your friends without shouting.
I think that it is unfortunate that people have chosen to send hateful messages to you without first taking the time to fully read your posts. I reread your earlier post and, though it is strongly worded, it does not refer to the DJ specifically or casually. You were complaining about loud music and a hotel that has made the poor decision to play it at night when most people need to sleep.
That the DJ decided to take this as a personal attack, shows that this is a sensitive topic which has been brought to her attention before. It was her right to publish a link to this blog on her Facebook page, but it was in SEVERELY bad taste to to approve the posting of a response which referred to you Reality in such insulting and derogatory terms.
I noticed on several reviews on the Park Inn that people have complained about the loud music on Wednesday and Thursday. I hope that the management at that hotel recognizes their duty to the community in which they do business and takes better care to control the actions of their employees.
Ah well B, I honestly don’t care and wont bother looking at Facebook postings. I just find it funny that many respond with.. “wear ear plugs” or “move out”..lol!
and just a note, I don’t live near the Hotel, and I wonder too about those who live closer…
Reality
It is annoying when people don’t even read the posts before venting off on their own head trip.
I thought the piece on Black Omani was terrific.
Oman still has a huge cultural problem discussing things that are true and obvious. As if by not talking about it makes it magically cease to exist.
Cheers,
Dragon
I think they were just insulted by the title, which they should know (if they ever took an English 101 writing course) that it is just an attention grabber…
and I agree with you, Oman has a problem discussing these issues, and it makes me wonder whether it is mainly a good or a bad thing…
I don’t think the DJ was posting in reference specifically to the blog, but to the guests who commented seem to think that it’s all the DJ’s fault for the faulty speakers!!
Guys, she just works there, she’s paid to do a job, she can’t insist on changing the speakers, management would probably just find a different DJ to play!!
Her music is pretty good, but its the hotel’s speakers that are crap.
You raise a very good point there.. The loud music is not loud every weekend, but some weekends (especially on the date that post was written) the music sounded as if it was a neighbor. At first we thought it was a wedding, but then when it happened a couple of times, I opened my window and there was the top of the Inn..
Just a guess, but I’m betting that if your post had been about how fabulous, cutting-edge, and trendy the “work” of amazing DJ **** was, she wouldn’t be asking you to take her name down!
Good on you for taking on this annoyance – it could be such a lovely place if it weren’t targeted at fashion victims and wannabes….
that night was my 25th birthday… that must have been the night the music got loud… but like i said if our inhouse guest havent complain then you have no write to… and you definately have no write to talk about me
this is my last comment to this topic… i hope you understand that this is really not my fault… i get paid for what i do best. if the management dont listen to you… trust me… they dont listen to me either… i just do my job so i can put food on my table.
hope you all understand now
Just because your hotel guests have not complained (which apparently they do, just no one listens to them “click here for the reviews”) that does not mean I cannot complain if it bothers me.
Looks like UD has overstepped the mark with his gay lesbian piece – Omantel have Muscatconfidential blocked as of now!!!
Jeez, DJs are on fire… haha! Good for blog publicity Reality
I think there’s no reason for DJ Z to get so fired about it. You never mentioned her name in the first place. I did.
You had every right (not ‘write’ as she put it – she should check her spelling before publishing, if she really is American, then her English should be better than that) to complain about the volume.
Utter crap.
That’s okay, she is a “hip” person, and i guess that’s how hip people talk..
B thinks its amusing that his wife is in a battle with a DJ.. lol!
Zahra should have more sense and just turn it down a notch.
I am sure the management is not asking her to blast it to the max.
Instead, it is the ambition of every amateur dj who needs to compensate for lack of skill, taste and experience.
A GOOD dj will periodically go out onto the floor and see how it all sounds outside of her headphones.
Anyhow, the place does not have a dancing license and more than 60% of the clientele is under-age (the only crowd that Zahra really caters to), gets in with fake IDs. Plenty of reasons for authorities to give them a stern warning, or even shut it down.
Never been a fan of the new “hip” Omani culture and the alleged night life my beloved country has. It is just a shock – at least to me,- when I find people arguing about what I used to consider norms of our lives. I never had to deal with noise, and when I did, and asked for it to stop, it always stopped. I guess tides of change has reached our shores. It saddens me that it is considered “OK” to disturb people’s comfort – even with music – in order to “put food on the table”, but then that’s just me.
Zahra is not even a real dj! She plagiarizes other people’s work and the only reason she is “dj-ing” (if you can call it that) is to get attention.
